An inaugural cultural salon brings together African and diaspora voices, community leaders and professionals to explore how culture can strengthen communities and inspire new possibilities.

On October 23, 2026, Klaman & Co hosted the inaugural edition of Home Beyond Borders, bringing together community leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives and changemakers in San Diego for an evening of dialogue, cultural expression and connection.

Centered on the question, “How do culture and identity shape our sense of belonging, and how can they inspire innovation?”, the cultural salon explored how diverse perspectives, shared experiences and meaningful relationships can contribute to stronger, more connected communities.

Moderated by Dr. Dhalia Balmir, the panel featured Shugri Salh, Dr. Angela Coker, Dominic Porter and Idara Ogunsaju. The conversation explored belonging, representation, leadership and the value of creating spaces where diverse voices can shape broader conversations.

African music, culinary traditions, storytelling and live art brought the cultural experience to life. An original painting, Intertwined: Where We Converge, captured the spirit of connection across identities and experiences.

The event also received recognition from San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, representing District 3, acknowledging Klaman & Co and its Founder and CEO, Johanne Gnagne, for their contributions to amplifying African and diaspora cultures, strengthening connections and creating opportunities across San Diego.

Beyond cultural Celebration

For Klaman & Co, Home Beyond Borders represents a broader vision: using culture as a catalyst for community building, collaboration and economic development.

By connecting people across communities, professions and sectors, the platform seeks to strengthen relationships, elevate African and diaspora talent and create pathways for knowledge exchange, leadership, entrepreneurship and economic opportunity.

Looking Ahead

Future editions will spotlight organizations, leaders and initiatives demonstrating how culturally grounded approaches can advance community well-being and economic opportunity.

Because stronger communities are built through connection, and new opportunities emerge when people, perspectives and possibilities come together.

Home Beyond Borders is a Klaman & Co initiative.
